What is it?
Moon Turtle: A Mood Journal is a 52-page notebook, designed to be filled out on 21 consecutive days.
Who is it for?
Moon Turtle: A Mood Journal is there to support anyone who feels there is room for improvement in their mental health. While it can be used on its own, it’s a great addition for people who are regularly seeing a mental health practitioner, such as a counsellor, therapist or psychologist.
How is it used?
There are two pages for each day – the left side is to be filled in first thing in the morning, and the right just before bed. It’s designed to take no more than five minutes, while still taking in really valuable information about how your mind works.
Why is it for 21 days?
This journal is based on the idea that it takes 21 days to build a habit. In this instance, the habit is paying attention to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in order to make connections and identify recurring patterns.
We also thought that 21 days was a reasonable amount of time to be doing something consistently, while still being able to collect enough data.
Finally, we wanted people to start journaling the day they bought or received their Moon Turtle, and were worried that a month-long journal might lead people to put off starting to write until the first of a month.
Why should I use it?
“When you know how you think, you get to change how you feel.”
– Knowing, Dr Know
When it comes to mental health and wellness, there’s no one thing that’s going to fix all of your problems. Spending time outside, nourishing your body, sleeping well, spending time with people you enjoy, challenging the negative thoughts in your head – all are ‘wellness habits’ which work together to help your brain feel better.
Moon Turtle helps you to pay attention to the small - but hugely valuable - areas of your life in order to see where you have room to create new, healthy patterns and habits that serve you well.
